This architecture of
the architect ' Kazuyo Sejima'
recalls to me two images
in my mind. One is the sculpture
that was designed by Carlo
Scarpa( 1906-1978 )
on the sea of Venice sited
in front of Giardini Park.
The other is japanese antique
house. The sculpture of
Scarpa is the marble that
is very simple but distributed
on the sea like the wood
column in the venice sea.
That is very natural and
has the white image that
is originated from the shadow
of the sunlight on the sea.
At any rate, the architect
Sejima had created the white
image on the Almere artificial
lake. And the composition
of this architecture has
the space that is endlessly
separate volume and space
that is like the composition
of the japanese antique
house. The overall of spaces
have the strict temperance
and connection of the each
space that were designed
by the horizontal and vertical
lines. The small yards in
the architecture can connect
the each separate building.
Usually, the climate of
Almere is cloudy and rainy.
The architecture can compromise
with that Almere climate.
To me, this architecture
throw the image of daffodil
in the gardens of Almere
that has showy roses.

If Villa La Roche and Villa Savoye can be called as the rich people's
architectures, City of Refugees called as the poor people's one to Le Corbusier
for the first time. Even though this architecture's mass was sited very closely
to the road, the sunken space of the garden was able to protect it from the
noise of the road. Meanwhile, the bridge connecting the stairs from the road and
the entrance of the building gives to us the sense of a proper distance from the
passerby's passages and the road's cars. When one enters the hall, he can
realize the concepts of free plan advocated by Le Corbusier. It is still fresh
modern design that Breeze Soleil(cooling by shade). of the facade and steel
canopy shaped of V on the left side of the building.

"A cultural position in architecture is a necessity." - Jean
Nouvel - Like his words, Now, Arab Cultural Center is necessary to paris's
culture and history. In 1987, It had been completed. In movie, I had focused on
three points that are lines, lights, geometric diapers of the architecture. Jean
Nouvel had studied a lot of ancient arab patterns for this building. As a
result, the diaphragm of the facade is very particular that it has dragged the
visitors's eyes and intentions. That is not to speak to us the cultures of arab
world, but to feel them. I think that It is much more important for me to
understand another cultural world. And also, Its polygons of varying shapes is
operated by the light in a day. This situation creates new size of polygons and
a geometric effects. It is enough for us to recall the Alhambra in Spain. In a
past, Alhambra's king liked the sound of falling water, and then he designed the
musical architecture by a water. Like that, Jean Nouvel has designed the
geometric architecture by a light.
